Amsterdam 2014

LAS DALIAS ON THE ROAD WAS INSTALLED IN WESTERGASFABRIEK, AN OLD GAS DEPOSIT CONVERTED INTO A CULTURAL AND EVENT CENTRE

A total success. That’s how the greatest adventure to date of the Las Dalias street market abroad has been described. The multi-coloured caravan of clothes, accessories and gifts was set up in Amsterdam for the first four days of May to offer the Dutch people our life style and our idea of creativity. Almost 15,000 visitors, more than 100 stalls, tons of craftwork delivered in containers and over 150 people travelling from Ibiza are the main figures of the biggest group journey outside Spain in the history of the island. And the balance is pure optimism, very positive, general satisfaction, and a wish to set up a similar experience in other European cities. Las Dalias On The Road was installed in Westergasfabriek, an old gas deposit converted into a cultural and event centre, located in a very popular parks and leisure area in the Dutch capital. The coincidence between the life style of the Dutch and the Ibizans, their mutual admiration, gave it enough appeal for thousands of women (the immense majority of its visitors) to respond to the call of the street market, based on an intensive promotional campaign online and in Amsterdam’s main media.

The performance by Paco Fernández and the ceremony paying homage to the Fallen during the Second World War were among the most moving moments of the event, in contrast with the ongoingentertainment in the children’s corner (with clowns Hugo and Rudy Rudine) and the peaceful atmosphere in the gardens and the morning yoga sessions. At night, the site’s bustle turned to a relaxed, holiday, setting in the communal areas of the hotel where most of the expedition were living. A boat trip put the finishing touch to this unique experience, which will possibly be repeated: “I want us to go back, and if we don’t return to Amsterdam, we’ll go to Berlin, to Paris, back to Madrid or to other cities. We couldn’t be happier”, says a satisfied Juanito, owner of Las Dalias and proud of having put “una pica en Flandes”, that old Castilian expression that is used to indicate that you’ve done something very complicated and costly, or undertaken a long journey that’s also an achievement. With good reason.

MILAN 2013

 FIERA L'ARTIGIANO DI MILANO

On Saturday November 30, the Milan fair in Fiera L'artigiano opened its doors to the public with a large influx of people. Over 2000 posts and 300,000 visitors per day come every day until Sunday December 8, to make their holiday shopping in full color, smells and products worldwide environment. The small delegation of Las Dalias, 18 posts in total, set up their stalls with magic and quality as always.

Puerto Banús 2012

Marbella

This Easter, thirty of the market stalls travelled to Port Banús inMarbella (Malaga), in a third adventure, one more experience of “Las Dalias on the Road”. The craftsmen set up their stalls for ten days in a marquee in the Plaza Antonio Banderas, invited by council of this city, the tourism capital par excellence of the Costa del Sol. This initiative enjoyed the support of the Association of Businessmen of Port Banús. This unique ‘Hippy market’ was decorated in Dalias style, and of course included live music from our dj’s. Both Marbellíes and tourists who did not know the Sant Carles street market were ¡equally captivated with the colours, the atmosphere and the sounds of Las Dalias and Ibiza, in a fusion with craftsmen and cuisine from other corners of the world. “Las Dalias on the Road” is preparing new projects and trips for the coming year.

Madrid 2011

MADRID, YEAR 2

May 2001. Las Dalias returns to the Palacio de Deportes of the Community of Madrid. For another year, its 150 stalls receive the visits of thousands of Madrileños.

Las Dalias on the Road, again. Again at the heart of the capital for four days in May, and keen to travel to other countries and cities in future to teach the world about our style, spreading the word on the most colourful and popular image of Ibiza. Craftsmen, designers, sales people, importers, artists, musicians, set designers, experts, the media. All the great family of Las Dalias and above all the visitors who patronised the market, particularly on the Saturday, greeted this new experience with enthusiasm. As the saying goes, “same history, different viewpoints”, so there were tales, anecdotes and opinions to suit all tastes, as often happens when a big family sets off on a journey. Lots of the media followed the event, so contributing to  consolidating the image of Las Dalias. It also enjoyed the support of important company sponsors and of institutions like the Consell d’Eivissa (the island government) and Santa Eulària Town Council, which not only support our projects and value our efforts, but identify with our way of life.

Madrid 2010

MADRID’S AMAZED AT THE MARKET

THE CONVOY FROM LAS DALIAS SAILED TO DENIA THEN WENT TO MADRID IN COACHES AT THE HOTEL, THE PROGRAMME FOR THE THREE DAYS WAS ESTABLISHED

A wonderful success Those three words are sufficient to describe the three days on which  Las Dalias Hippy Market was held in Madrid. More than 150 craft traders took the spirit ofthe market to the Palacio de los Deportes sports arena in Madrid, thus exporting the atmosphere, sound and image of Ibiza. Thousands of people in Madrid wereamazed by the crafts produced on the island, the clothing, the setup of the stalls, the music by Paco Fernández and the performanceby Namasté. Never has a promotional campaign from Ibiza taken so many people off the island. Never has such a positive initiative conceived on Ibiza had so much media coverage throughout Spain.

Finally the major television and radio stations talked about Ibiza without talking about accidents, crime, drug trafficking or the cliché subject of licentiousness. The whole experience was so fruitful that it may be exported to other European cities. Preparing for the future. More than 180 journalists and media specialising in travel and tourism, as well as Madrid-based travel agencies and tour operators, received information about Las Dalias directly from those involved. The tourism minister for the Balearic Islands, Pepa Marí, said: “It is very important that the media broadcast a perspective of the island that is completely different to the distorted, partial image we have seen on numerous occasions, an image that does not reflect the more authentic side of Ibiza”.
